The Good Game

The Good Game

It is with a long sigh of relief that we can break down a good win for USC. The much needed victory came in front of a crowd of just over 71,000 and our balanced run/pass attack showed glimpses that this team knows how to play Trojan football.

Some key highlights included Justin Davis rushing 14 times for 129 yards and a TD, JuJu Smith-Schuster catching 7 balls for 123 yards and 3 TD’s. Sam Darnold continues to impress as he completed 23 of 33 for 352 yards and showed leadership of the offense. Also we should note the good play of Deontay Burnett who hauled in 7 catches for 93 yards.

Defensively the Trojans applied tremendous pressure to the SunDevil offense and allowed just 6 points through 3 quarters. In the week leading up to the game, DC Pendergast noted how important it would be to get to the quarterback and bottle up the fast paced ASU offense which previously averaged 48 ppg. We did just that and amassed 3 sacks during the contest. Jonathan Lockett provided a key interception to swing the momentum right after a failed USC 4th down conversion. All in all it was a well played game at home and we will look to build on it against Colorado this weekend. Here’s what we know going into our game against the Bufffs.

  • As a team we are little banged up. Zach Banner is doubtful to play , Jabari Ruffin is doubtful , Ykili Ross doubtful, Taylor McNamara emergency only situations. John Plattenburg is back in action after clearing concussion protocol.
  • The Buffs average 43 ppg so once again our defense will need to play like it did against ASU.
  • Darnold will have to stay poised and consistent. A seemingly natural leader, Helton will rely on Sam for clock management, the ability to extend drives, and keeping the CU offense off the field.

USC has a chance once again to get back to .500 and they need to in the worst way against a Colorado team that sits atop the Pac 12 South.

FIGHT ON
