The Bounce Back Game

Sometimes all it takes is a slightly weaker defense and a big night of rushing yards to remind you. To remind you that after a tumultuous week of change, and a less than fulfilling season, our men in Cardinal and Gold can still get a win with a nice margin of victory. Aca’Cedric Ware led the effort with a career night on the ground, and JT Daniels connected with younger receivers to keep the secondary playing back.

It was a game the program needed to level things out and instill energy back into the roster. We will need every bit of that energy as we head straight into a tough three game finishing stretch. Depending on which version of Cal shows up at the Coliseum on Saturday, we could be in for a hard night. They have shown the ability to score 40+ points, but have also dropped some games that should have been easy wins. USC can do a lot to win back the confidence of the fan base by getting a solid win under the lights in front of a homecoming crowd. We will see the second edition of Helton as the play caller and execution on offense will be a key to victory. I would love to see us settle into a nice offensive tempo early on, build a lead, and then have commanding clock control to finish the job. Such a wish has been a tall order for our penalty prone Trojans this year so we will have to see which version of our own team comes to play on Saturday. Our defense should be the reliable force here in this game and I would be remiss to not highlight the play of Biggie Marshall. The veteran has showed maturity and discipline this year and has been neutralizing opposing receivers. Take a look at a some stats that were floating around social media this week, as he is putting together an All-American year.

The elephant in the room is that UCLA and Notre Dame lie ahead on the schedule. It is important to not look ahead and stay focused on a volatile Golden Bear team coming to town with something to prove. I firmly believe we are more than capable of getting the job done.

FIGHT ON
