The Salt Game

I could easily spend time penning a game review, and believe me it would be long. I could also write a scathing piece about Helton and his staff, but you can find plenty of that content on other sites. Here at The Late Game, it is time to look forward.

This weekend Jack Sears will lead our men into the Coliseum for his debut under center. The following weekend we take a late autumn trip to Corvallis. We then return home to for a matchup with Cal, head across town for the annual tilt against UCLA, and finally close it out with the Fighting Irish at home.

These are the cards we are dealt and with five games to play here are five things I want to see from this team:

  • Commit to the run this week. With Sears at the helm for the weekend, we do not want to rely on an untested arm to get us the win. Give Stephen Carr the game we all know he’s capable of having.
  • Play clean games. We limited our penalties to just two in Salt Lake. Let’s keep that going.
  • Have a blowout win. Oregon State is our best chance for this, assuming good weather. Let JT take control with our receivers and air it out deep into the second half to pump some much-needed life into our team and fans.
  • BEAT THE BRUINS. Nothing, absolutely nothing, could make this season worse than losing to Chip Kelly at the Rose Bowl. We own LA, and it’s time to make that loud and clear.
  • Keep it respectable against Notre Dame. We all know this game is a likely loss, but with all eyes on ND making a playoff push, a national audience will tune in to a west coast game. We will get the best version of ND they can put on the field as a loss would be catastrophic for them. Lose this game by less than ten points and we can salvage a small piece of respect on the national level as we begin our turnaround for next year.

There are five weeks of Trojan football ahead of us and while it doesn’t look like the brand of ball we are accustomed to, I plan to enjoy every bit of it. Here is to making adjustments and keeping the streak alive at home. BEAT THE SUN DEVILS

FIGHT ON

  1. Jeff, I couldn’t agree with you more regarding our run game. It is an imperative. As John Jackson said recently, every team has a game plan until they get hit in the mouth. Last week our Trojans took a punch squarely across the jaw. We shall see how they respond. Fight On!
